  • Why on earth should I use Scribus?

Because it’s reliable and Free. Free really means Free with an uppercase F. Free is more than just gratis (which is just a side-effect). It means that you are in control of your data and, if you wish, the code of your desktop publishing tool. That’s what smart individuals and companies prefer

Unfortunately, no. It is not part of Office for the Mac like it is on the PC, and there really aren't any reliable conversion utilities that will let you open pubs created in publisher on the Mac.

Site one: http://online2pdf.com
  1. When switching from Office for Windows to Office for Mac, you’ll discover that you can’t open Microsoft Publisher files in Office 2011 for Mac. You need to convert your Publisher files to Word (.docx) format by using Microsoft Office on a PC. After that, you can move those Word files to Office for Mac.
  2. Bask in the Final Product: You’re Running Microsoft Project Files on Mac! See the MPP file as it now appears in our tool. You can view it in the Gantt, as seen below, where dependencies can be linked, milestones set, etc., or use one of the other multiple views. View & Edit MPP Files.
  3. LibreOffice is an open source suite of applications similar to Microsoft's Office suite. LibreOffice's Draw, version 4.0 and above, for both Macintosh and Windows, can open and edit Microsoft Publisher files.
  4. You can, however, open and view the files on a Mac after Publisher converts them to a compatible format. 1 Launch Microsoft Publisher on your PC and open the document you want to send to a Mac.

With this site you upload a Microsoft publisher file and the site automatically converts it and then you download it via your Safari web browser as a PDF file.

1. Go to online2pdf.com

2. Click on the browse button and upload your publisher file.

3. The file will automatically download as a safari download.

4. Click on the download and it will open in preview and you can print it.

This has Google ads along the right hand sidebar so I assume it is funded by Google advertising.

Site two: http://www.publishertopdf.com

This site is similar.

1. Go to publishertopdf.com

2. Drag your file on this icon to upload it.

3. When the orange download box appears, click on it. This can take a few minutes for large files.

This second site doesn’t have any advertising.

I have tested both these sites and they both worked for the file I was converting which was a four-page document including text and images. I couldn’t see that one site worked any better than the other.

Thanks to Gordon’s comment below, here’s another site that looks great and handles bigger files:
