Even in the virtual world, synths come in all shapes and sizes. Choosing the right ones may be difficult at first when you’re still new to music production, but after you go through many such plugins and understand their many differences and similarities, the choices become easier.

However, having many synths means that you create a wider variety of sounds for your compositions. Not every plugin will be your go-to synth, but enriching your sonic arsenal isn’t a bad idea unless you overspend. So if you’re currently looking for a new virtual instrument, you could also take a look at LuSH-101.

A powerful synth with an old school vibe

Unlike many plugins from D16 Group, LuSH-101 doesn’t try to be an emulation of an old school physical synth. However, it still has a very well-designed photorealistic interface that seems to reference many 80s synths. Even though it looks great, I do have a problem with the instrument’s keyboard, as I fail to understand why it has to take up a third of the interface. Thankfully, you can alter the size of the plugin’s interface, and you can choose to hide the keyboard if it gets in your way.

Keep in mind that this is a very insignificant complaint, and I can’t say that I’ve got more. LuSH-101 sounds, well, lush, and it’s fairly easy to get results out of it. Every parameter is easily adjustable, and because of the classic design, you quickly understand how to route your oscillators to envelopes and LFOs, how to add noise and effects, or how to use the arpeggiator.

Layers of sounds

What’s great about this synth is that it allows you to create up to eight layers of different sounds, meaning that you could use it to create whole songs or at least sketches. You can choose different audio outputs for each layer, so you can edit each sound separately in your DAW. And if you have any doubt about the synth’s diverse capabilities, just start browsing its presets.

LuSH-101 manages to bring forth many elements from old school electronic instruments and combine them into one powerful virtual synth that many producers will find fascinating.
